Why you should license your pet:
-
- A Loma Linda City pet license can provide your pet safe passage home if it becomes lost. If it is injured, its license enables others to notify you more quickly. Our animal control officers will even bring the pet to you, for free, if it is currently licensed and has not been impounded before.
-
- A Loma Linda City pet license also provides important proof of current rabies vaccination. Rabies exists in San Bernardino County in certain wild animals as well as domestic animals that come infected through contact with them. Every year city residents are bitten by dogs, and some of them will be required to undergo a very expensive rabies treatment because the dog was not currently vaccinated against rabies. While the law does not require rabies vaccinations for cats, it would be prudent for cat owners to do so because of their possible contact with wild animals and bats.
-
- Dog licensing is mandatory - cat licensing is voluntary. All dogs over the age of 4 months must be licensed within 30 days. Pet owners moving into the area must also license within 30 days. A current rabies vaccination certificate is required to purchase a license.
Cats:
We do not license cats. We do not pick up stray or feral cats. Cats are not currently required by law to be vaccinated against rabies or licensed. We do however, strongly recommend that all cats that are allowed outdoors should be current on all vaccinations and wearing identification or micro chip implanted. Due to the nature of cats they are much more likely to come into contact with potentially infectious animals than dogs are.
Dogs:
Dogs are required by both State and Local Ordinance to be currently vaccinated against rabies and wearing a current license once they attain the age of four months. The license should be for the city in which the dog normally resides. Dogs visiting in the City for less than 30 days are not required to be wearing a Loma Linda license but should be wearing a license for the city in which they normally reside. Fines for not having your dog vaccinated and or licensed can be up to $130.00 for each infraction. Licenses may be purchased at City Hall, 25541 Barton Road, Loma Linda or online. You will need to provide proof of a current rabies vaccination and a spay/neuter certificate if your dog has been surgically altered.
Fees:
Dog Licenses are issued annually from date of rabies vaccination. A late fee of $15 will apply if license is not purchased within 30 days of moving into the city or within 30 days of the dog attaining the age of 4 months. A late fee also applies if you fail to renew your dog license within 30 days of expiration or if you fail to license your dog by the due date after receiving a notice of violation.
Please note that we only license residents in the City of Loma Linda. If you live outside of the city or in an unincorporated county area within city limits, please contact your local animal control agency and ask how to license your pet.
